What is Examity?

Examity logo

Examity is a proctoring solution that helps administer remote exams. The tool is integrated with D2L allowing for an easier testing experience from the LMS. Third-party test administrator websites are also supported. Examity uses a combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and human proctors to ensure students taking exams are not engaging in academic dishonesty. All sessions are recorded, reviewed by an Examity proctors and made available to instructors. The University of Arizona has chosen three of Examity's proctoring solutions (opens in a new tab) to be available for instructor use (restrictions apply). Examity is available 24/7 for 365 day of the year, allowing instructor to administer exams at any time. However, depending on the level used, students might be required to make appointments.

Examity Proctoring Solutions

Automated +Audit:

This level offers a fully automated, on-demand service. Students are required to auto-authenticate, read guidelines, and additional rules. During testing, students are monitored by AI, which will flag possible violations. Upon exam completion, a human proctor audits the recording, verifies AI-generated flags, and manually adds or deletes flags if necessary. The recording, report, and analytics for the exam session are made available to instructors. When this level is chosen, students are not required to schedule appointments.

Live Authentication +Audit:

This level provides a combination of automated and live proctoring. Students must connect with an Examity live proctor upon entering the tool. The proctor performs live authentication, reads guidelines and additional rules, and provides access to the exam. Once the exam has begun, the live proctor exits the session, and students are monitored by AI, which will flag possible violations. Upon exam completion, a human proctor audits the recording, verifies AI-generated flags, and manually adds or deletes flags if necessary. The recording, report, and analytics for the exam session are made available to instructors. Due to the use of live proctors, students must schedule an appointment when choosing this level. When this level is chosen, students are required to schedule appointments.

Additionally, the proctor guides the student through any post-exam instructions. Upon exam completion, a human proctor audits the recording, verifies AI-generated flags, and manually adds or deletes flags if necessary. When this level is chosen, students are required to schedule appointments.

Note

Due to the high cost of live proctoring, requests for Live Proctoring +Audit now require Department Chair approval. Requests are being approved only when absolutely necessary for exams, such as for certification exams, or on a very limited, case-by-case basis, for high-stakes assessments where students may benefit from experience with live proctoring as future credentialing will require it. To request live proctoring, fill out the Live Proctoring Request Form (opens in a new tab).
