Insert Panopto Videos into a Webpage
Note
The recommended way to provide access to a Panopto video in your course is by inserting the video into a webpage. This prevents problems with student access. Just pasting a link to the video in your course does not handle authentication, so students may be unable to access it.
Step 1
Create a new web page within a Module by choosing Upload/Create and selecting Create a File.
Step 2
Enter a title for the page.
Step 3
Select Insert Stuff.
Step 4
Select Panopto from the list of options on the left side of the page. You may have to scroll down to the bottom of the list to find the Panopto option.
Step 5
Choose the Panopto video you would like to embed by selecting the radio button to the left of the video.
Step 6
Select Insert.
Step 7
Select Insert in the new page that appears.
Step 8
You now see a preview of the embedded video. Select Save and Close.
Insert Media from the Web Into a Webpage
Step 1
Locate and copy the embed code for the video. Use these instructions for locating an embed code for a YouTube video (opens in new tab).
Step 2
Create a webpage ([LINK: instructions to create a web page]) OR edit an existing webpage.
Step 3
Select the Actions Menu icon to the right of the HTML page title.
Step 4
Select Edit HTML.
Step 5
In the HTML editor, select Insert Stuff.
Step 6
Select Enter Embed Code. You may need to scroll down to find it.
Step 7
Paste the embed code in the Embed Code box and select Next.
Step 8
The next screen shows a preview of the embedded video. Select the Insert button.
Step 9
Select Save and Close.
Note
Most embed codes are not "responsive," meaning when viewed on a small screen such as a phone, the video does not resize. If you want your video to work on all devices, copy your embed code, go to IFramely (opens in new tab) and paste it into the box, select the Embed Now button, then copy and paste the resulting code into your post using the above steps.
Add Video or Audio from the Web
Step 1
Locate the share or embed link of the media you would like to include in the Content.
Step 2
In a module, select Upload/Create.
Step 3
Select Video or Audio.
Step 4
Paste the embed code or link into the window.
Step 5
Add a Title. This is what students will select to play the video.
Step 6
Select Save.
Upload Audio or Video
Note
To record and/or insert a Video Note or Audio Note, reference the Add Video or Audio Note section of the HTML Editor: Add Media page (opens in new tab).
Note
The new Audio-Video Player can only be accessed via Content>Upload/Create>Video or Audio. You can only use the advanced features with the video you uploaded with this player, not retroactively.
Step 1
In a Content module, select Upload/Create and select Video or Audio.
Step 2
In the Add Video or Audio window, select the Upload tab.
Step 3
Browse for your file, or drag your video file into the Upload field.
Step 4
The upload process begins.
Note
The transcoding process starts when the file reaches 70% upload and may result in a momentary pause.
Step 5
When the upload is complete, enter a title and Save.
Select HD or SD Video Quality
The updated Settings icon in the Audio-Video Player allows users to change the video quality settings for high-definition (HD) files. Viewing in standard definition (SD) assists with playback in slow or unstable network situations.
Search Videos for Keywords
The Search field allows users to search for a keyword in a video caption track and see those locations reflected as stars on the timeline. A caption track must be present for the video, and the user must have Captions turned on to use the Search option.
Edit Audio and Video Timelines
Step 1
Select Edit Video, then Advanced Editing.
Step 2
Use the Seek (arrow), Mark (line), and Cut (scissor) icons to make cuts from the timeline of the original upload/recording.
Step 3
Expand the timeline by selecting and dragging it to make more precise edits. Select the small seek rectangle below the timeline and pull downward. The cut section between the mark lines indicates the space that will be cut.
Step 4
Select Finish at the top right when you are ready to save your edits.
Note
Advanced Editor will save your original version and mark the edits. The timeline in Editor will stay the same as the original version, but if you auto-generate captions, they will follow the original version in Editor. In Player, you only see the edited version, and the captions match.
Step 5
To undo your edits, remove the marks, and your version reverts to the original.
Note
The Date Indicator allows users to open a menu and select from previous versions.
Add Captions to Video and Audio
Note
Always proofread auto-generated captions to ensure their accuracy.
Step 1
Choose the Auto-Generate or Upload options on the Closed Captions tab to add captions. If you select Auto-Generate, you will see a message with a button to select to Auto-Generate.
Note
Be prepared for the saving process to take some time.
Step 2
To set the captions to "on" in the Player, first select the language:
Add Chapters
On the Table of Contents tab in Advanced Editing, add chapter titles and set their locations.
Step 1
Enter a Chapter title (by the + sign above the timeline to the right of the video screen.) Only hit return once you are ready to add it.
Step 2
Play the video. When you arrive at the precise second you want to insert the chapter title, hit return or select the plus sign next to the chapter title box. The chapter title will appear at the top of the box with the correct time stamp next to it.
