Manage Course Announcements

Create Announcements

Step 1

On your course home page select the Announcement Action Menu

Step 2

Select New Announcement.

Step 3

Enter a Headline.

Step 4

Enter your message in the Content field. You can use the HTML Editor to add links, images, videos, sound recordings, etc.

Step 5

In the Availability, Checkmark Show Start Date if you want the Announcement Start Date to be visible to participants.

Step 6

Enter a Start Date and End Date. These dates control when the announcement is visible to students. If you do not set a Start Date and an End Date, the Announcement is always visible to students.

Step 7

(Optional) In the Attachment area, add file attachments, video attachments, and/or audio attachments.

Step 8 

Save your Announcement. Choose Save as Draft to save the Announcement for future editing. Saved Drafts are not visible to students. Choose Publish to publish the announcement to the Announcement widget on your course Homepage. The announcement will be visible to students according to the Start and End Date parameters you set in Step 7.

Note:

The Announcement Tool can also be accessed through Course Admin in the Navbar.

Copy an Announcement to Another Course

Step 1

Select Course Admin from the Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Announcements tool. 

Step 3

Locate the announcement you want to copy to another course site(s), then select the Actions Menu icon.

Choose Copy to Other Courses.

Step 5

Use the Search Field to search for the destination course site(s); or, if already listed, select the checkbox to the left of the course site name(s).

Note

You can select up to ten (10) destination course sites.

Step 6

Select Next.

Step 7

Select Copy. If you want to immediately publish the announcement in the destination course site(s), select the checkbox option labeled Publish Announcement on Copy.

Step 8

Select Done.

Note

When copied, the announcement is in Draft state and must be Published in the destination course(s).

Edit Existing Announcements

Step 1

Select Course Admin from the Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Announcements tool. 

Step 3

Locate the announcement you want to edit, then select the Actions Menu icon.

Step 4

Choose Edit, and make the desired modifications.

Step 5

Select Update.

Reorder Announcements

Step 1

Select Course Admin from the Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Announcements tool. 

Step 3

Select the More Actions button, then Reorder.

Step 4

Use the Sort Order dropdown menu to select the order in which you would like each announcement to appear.

Step 5

Select Save.

Pin Announcements

Step 1

Select Course Admin from the Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Announcements tool. 

Step 3

Locate the announcement you want to pin, then select the corresponding Actions Menu icon.

Step 4

Choose Pin to top. A thumbtack will appear indicating that the announcement will display at the top of the Announcement Feed regardless of its publish date. All other announcements will follow in order of their publish date (most recent to least recent). 

Delete Announcements 

Step 1

Select Course Admin from the Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Announcements tool. 

Step 3

Locate the announcement you want to delete, then select the Actions Menu icon.

Step 4

Choose Delete.

Step 5

Select Yes to confirm that you want to delete the announcement.

Restore Deleted Announcements 

Step 1

Select Course Admin from the Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Announcements tool. 

Step 3

Select the More Actions button, then Restore.

Step 4

Locate and select the Announcement you want to restore using the checkbox to the left.

Step 5

Select the Restore button.
