Copy from Course to Course

Copy All Components from One Course to Another

Note

To copy from a course site, you must be listed on its Classlist as Instructor or Instructor Read Copy.

Step 1

Navigate to the Destination course site, i.e., the new course site you want to copy content into.

Step 2

In the Destination course site, select Course Admin from the Navbar. 

Step 3

Locate and select Import/Export/Copy Components.

Step 4

Select the Search for offering button located beneath Course to Copy.

Step 5

In the text field of the dialog box, enter the Course Name and Number. Alternatively, skip the text field entry and select the Search button. Selecting just the Search button will return all courses you have access to.

Step 6

Using the round button (radio button) to the left of the course name, select the course you want to copy. This is the Source course.

Step 7

Select Add Selected.

Step 8

Select Copy All Components, located bottom left of the Import/Export/Copy Components landing page.

Note

In most cases, when a Source course is copied twice into a Destination course, it duplicates the preexisting contents. There are some cases, however, in which the Source materials will overwrite the Destination contents, as indicated in the table below.

Copy: Specific Components from One Course to Another

Step 1

Navigate to the Destination course site, i.e., the new course site you want to copy content into.

Step 2

In the Destination course site, select Course Admin from the Navbar. 

Step 3

Locate and select Import/Export/Copy Components.

Step 4

Select the Search for offering button located beneath Course to Copy.

Step 5

In the text field of the dialog box, enter the Course Name and Number. Alternatively, skip the text field entry and select the Search button. Selecting just the Search button will return all courses you have access to.

Step 6

Using the round button (radio button) to the left of the course name, select the course you want to copy. This is the Source course.

Step 7

Select Add Selected.

Step 8

Select Select Components, located bottom left of the Import/Export/Copy Components landing page.

Step 9

Scroll down and use the square boxes to select the components you want to copy. You can copy individual items within a Category by choosing the Select individual items to copy option.

Step 10

Select Continue.

Step 11

Select Finish. If you chose the Select Individual items to copy option, choose the individual items you want to copy, then select Finish.

Note

In most cases, when a Source course is copied twice into a Destination course, it duplicates the preexisting contents. There are some cases, however, in which the Source materials will overwrite the Destination contents, as indicated in the table below.

Import a Course from Another Learning Management System

Step 1

Navigate to the Destination course site, i.e., the new course site you want to import content into.

Step 2

In the Destination course site, select Course Admin from the Navbar. 

Step 3

Locate and select Import/Export/Copy Components.

Step 4

Scroll down and select Import Components.

Step 5

Under Select a component source: verify that from a course package is selected.

Step 6

Select Start.

Step 7

Upload the Source course file that you exported from the other Learning Management System.

Step 8

Select Import All Components, then follow any additional prompts.

Export a Course as a D2L Brightspace Package

Step 1

Navigate to the Source course site, i.e., the new course site you want to export content from.

Step 2

In the Source course site, select Course Admin from the Navbar. 

Step 3

Locate and select Import/Export/Copy Components.

Step 4

Scroll down and select Export as Brightspace Package.

Step 5

Select Start.

Step 6

Select the checkbox corresponding to Select All Components to export the entire course, or select only the individual components you want to export.

Step 7

Select Continue.

Step 8

In the Additional Components to Export section, select Include course files in the export package.

Step 9

Select Export.

Step 10

Select Done, then wait for a notification that the export has finished. The notification will appear in the Update alerts (bell icon) area at the top of the page.

Step 11

When the notification appears, select the Export finished notification.

Step 12

Select the link Click here to download the export Zip package.

Step 13

Save the file to your computer.

Step 14

Select Done.

Export a Course as a Common Cartridge

Step 1

Navigate to the Source course site, i.e., the new course site you want to export content from.

Step 2

In the Source course site, select Course Admin from the Navbar. 

Step 3

Locate and select Import/Export/Copy Components.

Step 4

Scroll down and select Export as Common Cartridge.

Step 5

Select Start.

Step 6

Select the checkbox corresponding to Select All Components to export the entire course, or select only the individual components you want to export.

Step 7

Select Continue.

Step 8

In the Additional Components to Export section, select Include course files in the export package.

Step 9

Select Export.

Step 10

Select Done, then wait for a notification that the export has finished. The notification will appear in the Update alerts (bell icon) area at the top of the page.

Step 11

When the notification appears, select the Export finished notification.

Step 12

Select the link Click here to download the export Zip package.

Step 13

Save the file to your computer.

Step 14

Select Done.

Step 1

Scroll down and select Export as Thin Common Cartridge.

Step 5

Select Start.

Step 6

Select the checkbox corresponding to Select All Components to export the entire course, or select only the individual components you want to export.

Step 7

Select Continue.

Step 8

In the Additional Components to Export section, select Include course files in the export package.

Step 9

Select Export.

Step 10

Select Done, then wait for a notification that the export has finished. The notification will appear in the Update alerts (bell icon) area at the top of the page.

Step 11

When the notification appears, select the Export finished notification.

Step 12

Select the link Click here to download the export Zip package.

Step 13

Save the file to your computer.

Step 14

Select Done.
