Prepare and Submit Final Grades (6 Parts)

Part 1: Verify Grade Scheme Symbol

Step 1

Select Grades in the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select Settings (top right, wheel icon).

Step 3

Select the Class Display Options tab.

Step 4

Verify that the box next to Grade scheme symbol in the Student View Display Options area is selected (check-marked).

Note

The Grade scheme symbol option on the Class Display Options tab must be selected in order to successfully export grades to UAccess. It must also be selected for comments to be visible when using Text Grade Items.

Step 5

Select Save.

Step 6

Select Close.

Part 2: Determine How Ungraded Items are Calculated

Step 1

Select Grades from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select Settings (top right, wheel icon).

Step 3

Select the Calculation Options tab.

Step 4

Scroll to the Grade Calculations area and make a selection.

  • Drop ungraded items: This means that Grade Items are not calculated into the Final Grade until a grade (including zero) is entered. Students start with a 100% in the Gradebook and work down.
  • Treat ungraded items as 0: This means that students receive zeros for all assignments until the zero is replaced with a grade. Students start with 0% in the Gradebook and work up.

Step 5

Select Save.

Select Close.

Part 3: Choose to Release Final Calculated Grade or Final Adjusted Grade

Note

The selection you make here indicates which Final Grade is imported to UAccess. Your selection is also the Final Grade released to students within D2L, should you choose to release it (see instructions in Part 5 to release the chosen Final Grade to students within D2L).

Step 1

Select Grades in the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select Settings (top right, wheel icon).

Step 3

Select the Calculation Options tab.

Step 4

Scroll down to the Final Grade Released area, and select either Calculated Final Grade or Adjusted Final Grade.

Note

The Calculated Final Grade is typically released during the semester to show cumulative grades. The Adjusted Final Grade is typically released at the end of the semester if rounding or curving will be applied.

Step 5

Select Save.

Select Close.

Part 4: (Optional) Transfer Calculated Final Grade to Adjusted Final Grade 

Note

Transferring the Final Calculated Grade to the Final Adjusted Grade column is only necessary if you have selected to release the Final Adjusted Grade.

Step 1

Select Grades in the course Navbar.

Step 2

Verify you are on the Manage Grades page.

Step 3

Scroll down and locate Final Calculated Grade, then select the Actions Menu icon.

Step 4

Select Enter Grades.

Step 5

On the page that opens, locate the heading, Final Grade (top), then select the Actions Menu icon.

Step 6

Choose Transfer All.

Step 7

Select Yes to confirm the action.

Step 8

In the Final Adjusted Grade column, make the desired adjustments to grades.

Select Save and Close.

Select Yes to confirm the action.

Part 5: (Optional) Release Final Grade to Students

Step 1

Select Grades from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select Settings (top right, wheel icon).

Step 3

Select the Calculation Options tab.

Step 4

Scroll down to the Final Grade Released area, and select either Calculated Final Grade or Adjusted Final Grade. Selecting the Calculated Final Grade will release its value. Selecting the Adjusted Final Grade will release its value.

Note

The Calculated Final Grade is typically released during the semester to show cumulative grades. The Adjusted Final Grade is typically released at the end of the semester if rounding or curving will be applied.

Select Save.

Select Close.

Verify you are on the Manage Grades page.

Step 8

Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the Final Calculated Grade, then select the Actions Menu icon.

Step 9

Choose Enter Grades

Step 10

On the page that opens, locate the heading, Final Grade (top), then select the Actions Menu icon.

Step 11

Choose Release All.

Step 12

Select Yes to confirm the action.

Step 13

Select Save and Close.

Note

The Final Grade released icon (open eye icon) will display in either the Final Calculated Grade column or the Final Adjusted Grade column, depending on the choice you made in Step 4. Alternatively, the Final Grade not released icon (eye strikeout icon) displays at all other times.

Part 6: Import Grades to UAccess

Step 1

Navigate to UAccess (opens in new tab).

Step 2

Locate the Students tile, then select Instructor Center

Step 3

Verify that the current term is selected. If it is not selected, select the Change Term button, then choose the correct term.

Step 4

Locate the course you want to import grades from, then select the corresponding Grade Roster icon.

Step 5

Select the Import Grades from D2L button.

Step 6

Review the letter grades imported from your D2L Gradebook. Pay particular attention to any grades that may have been adjusted.

Step 7

If any students in your course are receiving a grade of E, you must use the Student Attendance dropdown menu to select how each student attended the course. If you choose Stopped Attending After, enter the Last Date Attended.

Step 8

If any students in your course have an Honors Contract, you may be required to enter a requirement designation grade. This is done using the dropdown menu in the Roster RD Grade column. Note that this dropdown menu will be visible to you once you have entered a grade for that student. 

Step 9

Once satisfied with your Final Grades in Grade Roster, use the Approval Status dropdown menu near the top of the screen to select Approved.

Step 10

After the status has been changed to Approved, a Post button will appear at the bottom of the screen. Select the Post button to submit official grades.

Step 11

If you need to change a grade after posting official grades, select the Request Grade Change link under the Approval Status dropdown menu.
