Insert ThingLink Scenario as a Graded Activity in Brightspace
ThingLink scenarios, and only scenarios, can be seamlessly integrated into Brightspace courses as graded activities. Other ThingLink media, by themselves, cannot be inserted and connected to a Brightspace grade item.
Note
A ThingLink scenario MUST have scores set up for it to send any score data to the gradebook. To learn about applying scores visit the ThingLink: Evaluation and Assessment tools (opens in a new tab) help page.
Follow the instructions below to insert ThingLink scenarios into content and connect them to a Brightspace grade item.
Insert Scenario into Content
Step 1
Within a Brightspace course content module, select the Add Existing button.
Step 2
Select the More... option.
Step 3
Select ThingLink under Third Party Tools.
Step 4
In the popup window that appears, select Scenario.
Step 5
Hover over the scenario you'd like to insert and select Send. The scenario will be inserted as an LTI link into your content module.
When a learner accesses the activity, they will see a prompt to open the link in a new tab. The link will open the scenario in a new tab and automatically authenticate the student so that their progress and score can be tracked. Once the learner reaches the end of the scenario, they will be shown a screen indicating that they have completed the scenario and that their score has been send to the LMS.
Connect to a Brightspace Grade Item
Once a ThingLink Scenario has been inserted into a Brightspace content module via the steps above, you can connect the activity to a Brightspace grade item.
The grade sync behaves differently depending on whether a grade item manually gets connected or not.
- Instructor manually creates and connects a grade item to the ThingLink activity.
- When a student completes the activity, the student's score will go to the grade item that was established with the appropriate amount of points that were set for that grade item.
- Instructor does NOT manually create or connect a grade item to the ThingLink activity.
- When a student completes the activity, it will automatically create a grade item and the amount of points for that grade item will be however many points were set within the ThingLink activity.
To create and connect a grade item to a ThingLink activity, proceed through the following instructions.
Step 1
Select the Scenario activity that was inserted into your Brightspace course content module. Select Edit Activity.
Step 2
Select Add and Manage Grade Items.
Step 3
Select + Grade Item.
Step 4
It will automatically create a grade item and use the name of the activity's title. Adjust the amount of points if desired. Select OK.
Step 5
Select Save and Close.
