Evaluate Submissions

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the name of the assignment you want to grade.

Step 3

Find the student you want to grade, then select Evaluate

Step 4

Evaluate the submission, then enter a grade in the Overall Grade field.

Note

If the Overall Grade field is not available, it means no Grade Out Of value has been entered in the Assignment Builder interface. Edit the assignment, then return to grading.​ 

Step 5

Enter text comments in the Overall Feedback text field. You may also Upload a File, Record Audio, and/or Record Video.

Step 6

Select Publish to make the feedback and grade immediately available to the student. Or, select Save Draft to save your work without releasing it to the student.

Use the arrow at the top right or bottom right of the page to progress to the next student’s submission.

Evaluate Submissions with a Rubric

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the name of the assignment you want to grade.

Step 3

Find the student you want to grade, then select Evaluate.

Step 4

Locate and expand the rubric.

To view the full rubric, select the "pop out" icon.

Step 5

Score each criterion.

Note

You must score every criterion in the rubric before you can publish the assignment feedback.

Step 6

Select Publish to make the feedback and grade immediately available to the student. Or, select Save Draft to save your work without releasing it to the student.

Note

If the maximum points for your assignment exceeds the maximum points indicated in your Rubric, D2L will calibrate and update the points for the assignment.

Evaluate New Submissions

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Locate the name of the assignment you want to grade. In the New Submissions column, select the numeric value. This value indicates the number of new submissions.

Step 3

Find the student you want to grade, then select Evaluate.

Step 4

Evaluate the submission, then enter a grade in the Overall Grade field.

Note

If the Overall Grade field is not available, it means no Grade Out Of value has been entered in the Assignment Builder interface. Edit the assignment, then return to grading.​ 

Step 5

Enter text comments in the Overall Feedback text field. You may also Upload a File, Record Audio, and/or Record Video.

Step 6

Select Publish to make the feedback and grade immediately available to the student. Or, select Save Draft to save your work without releasing it to the student.

Step 7

Use the arrow at the top right or bottom right of the page to progress to the next student’s submission.

Evaluate Anonymous Submissions

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the name of the assignment you would like to grade.

Step 3

Choose an anonymous student, then select Evaluate.

Step 4

Evaluate the submission, then enter a grade in the Overall Grade field. 

Note

If the Overall Grade field is not available, it means no Grade Out Of value has been entered in the Assignment Builder interface. Edit the assignment, then return to grading.​ 

Step 5

Enter text comments in the Overall Feedback text field. You may also Upload a File, Record Audio, and/or Record Video.

Step 6

Select Save Draft to save the score and feedback. When using anonymous grading, individual scores and feedback cannot be published. Scores and feedback must be published for all students at the same time.

Step 7

After evaluating all students, return to the list of submissions. Select Publish All to make the feedback and grade immediately available to all students. After publishing, anonymous numbers will be replaced with student names.

Evaluate Submissions Using Annotations

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the name of the assignment you want to grade.

Step 3

Find the student you want to grade, then select Evaluate.

Select the file to open the submission for evaluation.

To access the Annotation tools, select the Annotations icon (looks like a pencil). This opens the Annotations toolbox.

Step 6

Notice, there are four categories of tools: Drawing, Note, Text, and Lines (shapes). The tools may have additional options/features available by selecting them within the tool.

Step 7

After annotating the document, enter a grade for the student in the Overall Grade field.

Note

If the Overall Grade field is not available, it means no Grade Out Of value has been entered in the Assignment Builder interface. Edit the assignment, then return to grading.​

Enter text comments in the Overall Feedback text field. You may also Add a File, Record Audio, and/or Record Video.

Step 9

Select Publish to make the feedback and grade immediately available to the student. Or, select Save Draft to save your work without releasing it to the student.

View Submission Log

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Actions Menu icon next to the name of the assignment, then choose Submission Log.

Step 3

Use the tabs at the top of the page to filter results by Submitted, Deleted, Restored, or Started timestamps.
