Create, Edit, Preview, Delete, and Restore Assignments

Create a New Assignment

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select New Assignment.

Step 3

Enter the Name of the assignment.

Step 4

Enter a value in the Grade Out Of field. Adding a value will reveal the option to link the assignment to the Gradebook.

Note

If you do not enter a value in the Grade Out Of field, the option to link an assignment to the Gradebook will not be visible.

Step 5

Link the assignment to the Gradebook.

  • If you have not created a Grade Item in the Gradebook, no additional action is necessary. D2L will automatically create a new Grade Item with the same name as the assignment.
  • If you have already created a Grade Item in the Gradebook, select the Actions Menu icon next to In Grade Book, then choose to Edit or Link to Existing. Next, choose Link to an existing grade item. From the dropdown menu in the pop-up window, locate the Grade Item you created. Select OK.

  • If you do not want to link the assignment to the Gradebook, select the Actions Menu icon next to In Grade Book, then choose to Reset to Ungraded.

Step 6

In the Due Date calendar field, select the date that the assignment will be due. Students can submit after the due date; however, the submission will be flagged as late.

Step 7

In the Instructions text field, enter instructions for completing the assignment.

Step 8

Expand the Availability Dates & Conditions area.

In the Start Date and End Date calendar fields, select the date and time that the assignment will start and the date and time that the assignment will end.

Step 10

Expand the Submission & Completion area.

Step 11

Verify that you wish to use the default settings. Make any necessary changes.

Step 12

Expand the Evaluation & Feedback area.

Step 13

If you want to add a rubric, select Add Rubric, then choose to Create New or Add Existing.

Step 14

Verify that you wish to use the default settings. Make any necessary changes.

Select Save and Close.

Enable Turnitin Plagiarism Tool

Step 1

Expand the Evaluation & Feedback area.

Step 2

Select Manage Turnitin.

Step 3

Select Enable Similarity Report for this folder (make sure the checkbox is marked).

Make any other optional selections.

Step 5

Save.

Create a New Group Assignment

Step 1

Follow Steps 1 - 9 of the article Create a New Assignment.

Step 2

Expand the Submission & Completion area.

Step 3

In the Assignment Type section, select Group Assignment.

Step 4

Make any other desired changes to the default settings.

Step 5

Expand the Evaluation & Feedback area.

Step 6

If you want to add a rubric, select Add Rubric, then choose to Create New or Add Existing.

Select Save and Close.

Edit an Assignment

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Actions Menu icon to the right of the assignment you want to edit, then choose Edit Assignment.

Step 3

Edit the assignment.

Step 4

Select Save and Close.

Preview an Assignment

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the More Actions button located near the top of the page, then choose Preview.

Step 3

Select the assignment to experience the interface as a student.

Step 4

Select Exit Preview when finished previewing.

Delete Individual Assignments

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the Actions Menu icon to the right of the assignment, then choose Delete Assignment.

In the confirmation pop-up window, select the Delete button.

Delete Assignments in Bulk

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Using the checkmark box, select the Assignments you want to delete.

Step 3

Select the More Actions button, then choose Delete.

In the confirmation pop-up window, select the Delete button.

Restore Deleted Assignments

Step 1

Select Assignments from the course Navbar.

Step 2

Select the More Actions button, then choose Event Log.

Step 3

Locate the assignment folder and select Restore to restore the assignment.
