VoiceThread Sharing

VoiceThreads are private by default. Permissions can dictate whether others can view, comment on, or edit VoiceThreads you create. These permissions can be granted to specific individuals or to groups of people. Sharing permissions can be revoked at any time so that others can no longer access a shared VoiceThread. At the University of Arizona, VoiceThreads are most commonly shared via the D2L integration to avoid access issues.

Sharing a VoiceThread in D2L

Sharing a VoiceThread using the D2L integration is the most common way to share a VoiceThread with others at the University of Arizona. Inserting an Individual VoiceThread into a D2L course using either Existing Activities > VoiceThread in a D2L Content Module, or using Quicklinks in a D2L Discussion or File (webpage) can be done following the steps below.

Existing Activities

Step 1

Navigate to the D2L Course and Content Module where you'd like to insert a VoiceThread.

Step 2

Select Existing Activities.

Step 3

Select VoiceThread from the Existing Activities menu.

Step 4

Select Individual VoiceThread from the VoiceThread Choose an activity type menu.

Step 5

Select the VoiceThread you'd like to insert into the course by selecting the radio button on the VoiceThread. The page will refresh, moving your selection to the top of the results. If you would like to filter the results seen from the VoiceThread Homepage, select the Filter and sort option.

Note

If there are student-made comments on the VoiceThread you're selecting, and you'd like to remove them, this can be done before inserting the VoiceThread into the course by selecting the kebab button (three dots) on the VoiceThread, then selecting the Copy button. From there, you can rename the copy of the VoiceThread, and select which comments to keep and which to discard.

Step 6

Select the Continue button.

Step 7

The next 3 pages will be configuration pages for your VoiceThread and the behaviors that others will experience when viewing the VoiceThread.

Step 7a

The first configuration page will display the gallery of slides contained in the VoiceThreads. On this page, slides can be rearranged, removed, added, edited, and renamed. If no changes are needed to the VoiceThread at this time, select Continue.

Step 7b

The second page opens the VoiceThread for adding comments, removing comments, reviewing the slides and comments existing on the VoiceThread, and making sure you have chosen the correct version of the VoiceThread you're sharing. If no changes are needed to the VoiceThread at this time, select Continue.

Step 7c

The third and final configuration screen will present a list of behavioral options for the VoiceThread. It is recommended that you read through each option to ensure you're aware of how the VoiceThread will behave when it's being interactive within the course. By default, the following selections will already be made:

  • Microphone, Webcam, Upload, and Text commenting will be enabled.
  • Threaded commenting will be enabled.
  • Allow students to make a copy will be enabled.

When you've made your selections, select Continue.

Step 8

Lastly, enter the Activity name as you'd like it to appear in the D2L Content Module, and select Publish.
