What is Assignment Builder?

VoiceThread Assignment Builder Assignments are not related in any way with D2L Assignments (the Assignments option in the D2L Navbar). Though possible, it is not recommended to use VoiceThread Assignments inside of a D2L Assignment, it will cause confusion for both instructor and student.
VoiceThread Assignment Builder is a VoiceThread activity type that allows instructors to create gradable assignments using VoiceThread. Assignment Builder assignments can be created with specific requirements such as how many comments must be made and how many slides must be added to a VoiceThread. Assignments are created using VoiceThreads, and can require a student to:
- Create a VoiceThread from scratch, share it with the course, and optionally enter the Student Gallery and interact with other student's VoiceThreads
- Comment on, add slides to, and/or watch entirely a VoiceThread of the instructor's choosing
- Watch a VoiceThread and all of it's media in its entirety
Additionally, there is an option in Assignment Builder called Reconnect Previous Assignment that allows you to disconnect an assignment from one link in a course and move it to another location.
Note
Currently, Create Assignments can grade on the student's creation of a VoiceThread, but not their interaction with another student's via the Student Gallery. However, there are plans to add this functionality in the future.
What Are Create Assignments?
Require students to create a VoiceThread. Students will upload the slides and record comments, then submit the VoiceThread for a grade. You can allow students to interact with other submissions via the Student Gallery so they can engage in peer review and conversation. In the assessment portion of the configuration for the assignment, Percentage, Complete/Incomplete, or Points options can be configured. Once graded from the Assignment Builder Grader, the score will pass automatically to the D2L Gradebook.
What Are Comment Assignments?
Require students to watch and add comments and slides to a VoiceThread that you choose. Students will upload the slides and record comments, then submit the VoiceThread for a grade. In the assessment portion of the configuration for the assignment, Percentage, Complete/Incomplete, or Points options can be configured. Once graded from the Assignment Builder Grader, the score will pass automatically to the D2L Gradebook.
What are Watch Assignments?
Require students to watch a VoiceThread and all of its elements in their entirety. A D2L Grade Item will be automatically created worth 1 point, and if the student completes the VoiceThread and all included assets, they will automatically earn 1 point which will transfer automatically to the D2L Gradebook.
What is Reconnect Previous Assignment?
Reconnect Previous Assignment is not an Assignment type, but rather a way to disconnect an existing Assignment Builder Assignment from one link in D2L and move it to another link. For example, if an Assignment were to accidentally be connected to the VoiceThread link in the UA Tools > VoiceThread menu option, Reconnect Previous Assignment can be used to transfer that Assignment to a different link in Course Content.
