Share a Panopto Video
Creators can share their Panopto video to other individuals, with a link or with an embed code. You can also adjust the video's share permission to make it more restricted or more widely available.
You can apply some of these share settings at the folder level as well. View Panopto's support page on How to Share a Folder (opens in a new tab).
Share Permissions
Step 1
Within your Panopto library, select the Share button within the thumbnail of your video.
Step 2
Select Change from under Who can access this video to change the share permission.
Step 3
A pop-up list will appear with the following share options
- Restricted: Share the video with specific people and groups as viewers.
- Your Organization (unlisted): Anyone at your organization with whom you've shared the link. Requires viewer to have a University of Arizona Panopto account and be signed in.
- Public (unlisted): Anyone with whom you've shared the link can access the video. Does not require any kind of sign in to view.
Note
Videos inherit sharing permissions from their parent folder. A user may adjust this sharing permission to be more public than the parent folder setting, but not more private.
Invite People
Step 1
Within your Panopto library, select the Share button within the thumbnail of your video. This will open your sharing options.
Step 2
Under People and groups, start typing the name or University of Arizona NetID of the person with whom you want to share the video. Based on the name or netID you start typing, a suggested user list will appear for you to select the correct person. If the person has an existing University of Arizona Panopto account it will show a suggestion that has the following format and as seen in the image below:
unified\netid | netid@arizona.edu
Step 3
Once you have the user selected, you can opt to do the following:
- Notify people - sends them an email to let them know they have access to the video.
- Include table of contents and transcript if available - adds the video's table of contents and transcript to the email sent.
- Message - type a custom message to send to them regarding the video.
Note
Creator access cannot be assigned at the video level. Creator rights can only be given at the folder level; as such, you will need to grant a user Creator access to the parent folder of the video for which you would like them to have Creator access.
Step 4
The person will appear in the list of names under People and groups.
Note
To unshare the video with an individual, select the delete (X) option that appears to the far right of the user's name. If the parent folder for a video is shared with the users, you will be unable to unshare the video until their access has been revoked at the folder level.
Share Using a Link
Step 1
Within your Panopto library, select the Share button within the thumbnail of your video. This will open your sharing options.
Step 2
If you have set Who can access this video to any option except Restricted, you can copy and share the link by selecting the Copy Link button that appears. Link copied will appear at the bottom, indicating that you have successfully copied the link. You can optionally select the checkbox next to Start at and add the timestamp at which you'd like the video to start when the audience opens the link provided.
Share Using Embed Code
Step 1
Within your Panopto library, select the Share button within the thumbnail of your video. This will open your sharing options.
Step 2

Step 3
When the Embed button is selected, select your preferred aspect ratio, size, and viewer options. Select Copy Embed Code.
Options you can adjust:
- Autoplay: Select this option to have the video begin playing automatically when the webpage loads.
- Enable 'Watch in Panopto': Select this option to display an arrow that allows a viewer to open the video in the full interactive player.
- Show Title: Select this option to display the title of the video at the top of the player.
- Show Logo: Select this option to display your organization's embedded logo in the player.
- Show Captions: If available, this will display the video's captions.
- Ratio: Choose from 16:9 (default), 4:3, or Custom. The aspect ratio describes the proportional relationship between the video's height and width.
- Width and Height: Adjust the size of the embedded video player in pixels. If you select an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 4:3, the height will adjust automatically based on the width. If you select a custom aspect ratio, you may adjust the width and height independently.
- Start At (in seconds): Controls the time in the video where playback will start.
- Interactivity: Choose from All, Search and Rating Only, or None. All will allow a viewer to search within the video, rate the video, access the table of contents, make notes, and add discussion posts. Search and Rating Only will allow a viewer to only search through the video and rate it but not access the other interactive features. None removes all of the interactive features.
Step 4
Paste the embed code into a web page's HTML. The embedded player will be inserted into the page.
