Add a PlayPosit Bulb to Brightspace

Use Existing Activities

Note

We strongly recommend using the Existing Activities method to add bulbs to Brightspace. This method ensures optimal PlayPosit functionality.

Step 1

Navigate to the course site where you want to add the Bulb and select Content in the Navbar. Select the module where the PlayPosit Bulb will be linked.

Step 2

Within the module, select Existing Activities. Select PlayPosit from the drop-down menu.

Step 3

Select Set Link from the Add Activity window to access your PlayPosit instructor dashboard.

Step 4

Find the Bulb in your My Bulbs list. Select the D2L icon (Set Bulb Link) next to the name of the Bulb to set the Bulb link.

Step 5

Configure the link settings from the menu that appears by selecting a Learner Experience and a Sync Grades to LMS option from the drop-down menus. The default settings are: Self Paced (Select Learner Experience) and Yes (Sync Grades to LMS).

Learner Experience Options

  • Self Paced - Choose this option if you want learners to take the Bulb individually, on their own device, at their own pace (most commonly used).
  • Live Broadcast - Choose this option if you want learners to complete the Bulb synchronously in class. Learn more: Broadcast with an LMS (opens in a new tab).

Sync Grades to LMS (Learning Management System) Options

  • Yes - Grades will be synced to the Brightspace Gradebook once learners complete the Bulb.
  • No - Grades will not be synced to the Brightspace Gradebook.

Note

By default, Brightspace will add a column in the Gradebook for all linked Bulbs, even if you select No to Sync Grades. If you selected No, grades will not sync (they will appear as -%). We recommend hiding this empty grade item from students. Learn more: Hide and Drop PlayPosit Grades in the Brightspace Gradebook. Because linked Bulbs must have an External Learning Tool association, you cannot delete the associated grade item.

Step 6

Select the Link button. This will link the Bulb to the content module, create a grade item associated with the Bulb, and return you to the content module.

Note

When you select the Bulb link in Brightspace, the grey instructor view of the Bulb will appear. This window is called the Manage Link window. Within this window are options to download a CSV file of learner responses to the Bulb, to Preview the Bulb, to Monitor the Bulb, and to Enter PlayPosit. To preview the student view of the Bulb, select Preview.

When students select the Bulb link in Brightspace, the student view of the Bulb will appear. This is the embedded interactive video in the course site.

Use Insert Stuff

Step 1

Navigate to the course site where you want to add the Bulb and select Content in the Navbar. Select the module where the PlayPosit Bulb will be linked.

Step 2

Within the module, select Upload / Create (New content menu) and select Create a File.

Step 3

In the Create a File window that appears, enter a Title in the provided field. This is what students will see and select in the Content module.

Step 4

Select within the HTML editor box, then select the Insert Stuff icon from the toolbar.

Step 5

From the list of options that appear in the Insert Stuff window, select PlayPosit.

Step 6

To link a Bulb, select Set Link from the Add Activity window to access your PlayPosit instructor dashboard.

Step 7

Find the Bulb in your My Bulbs list. Select the D2L icon (Set Bulb Link) next to the name of the Bulb to set the Bulb link.

Step 9

Select the Link button. This will link the Bulb to the HTML page and return you to the Create a File page. The Bulb has now been added via Insert Stuff to the HTML page.

Note

Please be aware that the grade item for the graded Bulb assigned with Insert Stuff will show up in the Brightspace Gradebook after at least one learner launches the bulb. To avoid this, you could take the Bulb first with a test student. To request a test student to enroll in your course sites, please email intech@arizona.edu.

Brightspace will default to exclude the grade item from the final grade calculation. To include the grade in the final grade calculation, edit the grade item settings. Use Insert Quicklink

Step 1

Navigate to the course site where you want to add the Bulb and select Content in the Navbar. Select the module where the PlayPosit Bulb will be linked.

Step 2

Within the module, select Upload / Create (New content menu) and select Create a File.

In the Create a File window that appears, enter a Title in the provided field. This is what students will see and select in the Content module.

Select within the HTML editor box, then select the Insert Quicklink icon from the toolbar.

From the menu that appears, find and select the PlayPosit option within the Third Party section.

To link a Bulb, select Set Link from the Add Activity window to access your PlayPosit instructor dashboard.

Step 7

Find the Bulb in your My Bulbs list. Select the D2L icon (Set Bulb Link) next to the name of the Bulb to set the Bulb link.

Configure the link settings from the menu that appears by selecting a Learner Experience and a Sync Grades to LMS option from the drop-down menus. The default settings are: Self Paced (Select Learner Experience) and Yes (Sync Grades to LMS). You can also adjust the placement of the Bulb within the HTML page from this menu.

Step 9

Select the Link button. This will link the Bulb to the HTML page and return you to the Create a File page. The Bulb has now been added as a Quicklink to the HTML page.

Step 10

Select the Save and Close button to complete the creation of the HTML page with the linked Bulb. You can add multiple Bulbs via Quicklink to a single HTML page.

Note

Please be aware that the grade item for the graded Bulb assigned with Quicklink will show up in the Brightspace Gradebook after at least one learner launches the bulb. Important

To delete a Bulb or Playlist from your course and then delete the grade item in the Brightspace gradebook, you must first unlink it from PlayPosit and then delete it from the course content. This will fully remove the associated External Learning Tool links.
