Discussion View Settings
Modify Instructor View of Discussions
Instructors can change their Personal Settings. These settings only affect how instructors see Discussions.
Step 1
On the Discussions List (the Discussions tab on the Navbar), select the Settings icon at the top right of the page.
Step 2
Under Display Settings, select Always show the Discussions List pane to display a menu at the left side of the page while viewing a Discussion Topic. The menu allows you to move between Forums and Topics without returning to the main Discussions page.
Step 3
Select Display deleted posts to allow instructors to see all students' deleted posts.
Step 4
Choose Grid View or Reading View.
- Grid View (aka the old view - not currently popular) lists Discussion postings by subject and student author. Click on the title to read the post. If you use Grid View, additional settings apply only to this view. They are listed toward the bottom of the Discussion Settings page under Grid View Settings. Click on the question mark icons for more information.
- Reading View is the updated view that is currently the default. It includes the subject of the post, the student's name, and the first sentence or two of the original post. If the preview of a thread does not fit in the list of threads, select the more link to read the full text of students' original posts and any responses.
Step 5
In Reply Settings, check the box to Include original post in reply if you want the original post to be included in a response automatically.
Step 6
Select Save if you make any changes.
Modify Class View of Discussions
Step 1
Under Class Display Settings, choose how the Rating Scheme is shown if you would like to have students rate posts. Click on the Actions Menu icon in the Rating field and choose the scheme you want.
Note
The students (and instructors) will only be able to rate inside a particular thread when it is open.
Step 2
Set Availability Condition Defaults if you would like to have all of your restrictions match. This can save the steps of changing them each time.
Step 3
Save any changes at the bottom of the page.
