Participate in Discussions
Start a Message Thread
Step 1
In the Discussions List, select the title of the Topic where you want to begin a new message.
Step 2
Select the Start a New Thread button.
Step 3
Enter a subject for your message in the Subject field.
Step 4
Enter your message using the HTML Editor field.
Step 5
Select the Pin thread box under the HTML Editor field if you want your message to remain at the top of the Topic regardless of any new messages posted.
Step 6
Insert media into your post using the Insert Stuff icon in the HTML Editor.
Step 7
Insert a link using the Insert Link icon.
Step 8
Add images to your post using the Insert Image icon.
Step 9
Select Add Attachments under the Pin thread to view buttons to Upload, Record, or Choose Existing files.
Step 10
The name of the Topic you are posting to will be listed next to Post to. If you want to post to multiple Topics in the course simultaneously, click Post to other topics below it and click Add Topics. Check the box next to any Topics where you'd like this post to appear and click Add Topics.
Step 11
Select the Post button to post your message to the thread.
Reply to a Message Thread
Step 1
In the Discussions List, click on the title of the Topic to which you want to reply.
Step 2
Select the subject of the post you want to reply to.
Step 3
Select Reply to Thread.
Step 4
Enter a subject for your reply in the Subject field.
Step 5
Enter your message using the HTML Editor field.
Step 6
Use the Insert Stuff, Insert Image, Insert Link, and Other Insert Options icons to embed media directly in your post. See Start a Message Thread Steps 4-8 for screenshots.
Step 7
Select Add Attachments to attach files or record an audio or video message as part of your reply.
Step 8
Click the Post button to post your reply to the thread.
