Add a Quiz to a Panopto Video

This page explores how to add quiz questions within a Panopto video. In Panopto you have the ability to add quizzes with questions to any Panopto video at any point during the video. A quiz can contain as many questions as you desire, and you can insert as many quizzes as you want within the timeline of your video.

Create a Quiz

Step 1

Open your video within the Panopto editor by selecting the Edit button within the thumbnail of your video.

Step 4

A quiz window will appear in your secondary stream window where you can fill in the details of your quiz. The top option is the name or title of your quiz. It is recommended if you will have multiple quizzes in your video to give them a unique name so you can easily distinguish the quizzes when viewing the results or when needing to edit.

Step 5

Within the form, you can select the drop-down menu in the top right to show different types of quiz questions. The quiz options include True/False, Multiple Choice, Multiple Select, and Fill In the Blank. The default choice is multiple choice.

Let's explore the individual question types.

Multiple Choice: Gives you the option to have several answers present, but only one answer can be chosen as correct. When the option is first chosen, there will only be two answer fields. Another answer field can be added by selecting the Add Answer... button. You need to have the correct answer selected before adding another question. To remove an answer you can select the delete (X) option next to any of the answers.

Fill In the Blank: Gives you the option to ask questions that require users to fill in answers to the question. The prompt will ask for the correct answer to be provided.  An underscore needs to be placed before and after the answer. For portions of the question where there are multiple possible answers for a blank space, insert a divider between each potential answer.

Add Video Quiz to D2L

Once you have a Panopto video that has a quiz inserted, you can add the video into your D2L course content and have it connect to the course gradebook.

Please visit the Insert Panopto Video into a D2L Course help page for instructions on Using Existing Activities for a Panopto Quiz Graded Activity.

Important

  • Each question within a quiz will be worth 1 point. There is no ability to change how much a question is worth.
  • If you have multiple quizzes in a video, Panopto will report a total combined score of all quizzes to the D2L course gradebook.
  • Viewers must complete ALL quizzes within the video for a score to be submitted to the D2L course gradebook.
