Insert ThingLink Content into a Brightspace Course
This guide explains two common methods for inserting ThingLink content into a Brightspace course using LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability) integration:
- Add Existing Method in the Brightspace New Content Experience
- Insert Stuff Method within the Brightspace HTML editor
Using the LTI integration allows students to access interactive ThingLink content directly inside Brightspace without needing separate links or embed codes.
Note
If you want to use ThingLink for grading purposes, you'll do that through building a ThingLink Scenario. View the following pages for how to build a ThingLink Scenario and how to insert it as a graded activity into Brightspace.
Use Add Existing Method
This method is recommended when adding ThingLink content directly into a Brightspace Content module.
Step 1
Within a web browser, navigate and log in to the Brightspace Homepage (opens in a new tab).
Step 2
Select the appropriate Brightspace course from the list of My Courses.
Step 3
From a Content module, select Add Existing, then choose More, and select ThingLink.
Step 4
The ThingLink selection window will open. By default you'll be shown the "Scene / video" options which includes the various content you have previously created in your Media library. You will have a drop-down option with choices for "Embed" and "Send as LTI Link".
- Embed — Inserts the ThingLink experience directly inside the Brightspace content page so students interact with it inline without leaving the course page.
- Send as LTI Link — Creates a launch link that opens the ThingLink activity separately through the LTI connection.
Step 5
Choose the ThingLink activity, image, video, or 360° experience you want to insert by selecting the Send button on the activity.
Step 6
The ThingLink activity will appear as a content item inside the module. Select the activity to verify that it displays or launches correctly and that the interactive elements work as desired.
Use Insert Stuff Method
This method is useful when embedding ThingLink content directly inside a Brightspace page, announcement, discussion, assignment description, or other HTML content area.
Step 1
Open an editable Brightspace content area. You can use the Insert Stuff method in areas such as:
- Content pages
- Announcements
- Discussions
- Assignment descriptions
- Quiz instructions
- HTML templates
Open the item you want to edit.
Step 2
Locate the Brightspace HTML editor. Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 3
Within the Insert Stuff menu, select ThingLink.
Step 6
Select the Insert button on the preview screen.
Step 7
Select the Save and Close button.
The ThingLink activity will appear as an embedded activity in the content area of your choice. Select the activity to verify that it displays or launches correctly and that the interactive elements work as desired.
