Explore the Panopto & PlayPosit Integration

UArizona's PlayPosit license includes an integration between PlayPosit and Panopto, our campus lecture capture solution. Learn more: What is Panopto?

This means you can add interactive elements to your Panopto-hosted content using the PlayPosit designer. This page compiles information about using Panopto videos within PlayPosit. For more details, please visit PlayPosit Knowledge Base: Panopto Video (opens in a new tab).

Important

Before adding a Panopto video to a Bulb, finalize all edits within Panopto. If you edit the Panopto video in Panopto after adding it to a Bulb, those edits will apply to the video since it's being hosted in the Bulb. This can change the timing of interactions within the Bulb. Any edits that need to be made after creating a Bulb should be done in the PlayPosit Designer.

Add a Panopto Video to a PlayPosit Bulb

Step 1

Access your PlayPosit instructor account (learn how to Access PlayPosit) and navigate to My Bulbs.

Step 2

If you are adding the video to an existing bulb: enter the Bulb Designer and select Add Video to access the Video Source menu. Select Panopto from the Video Source menu.

If you are creating a new Bulb: the Video Source menu opens automatically after you select the Add New Bulb button from My Bulbs. Select Panopto from the Video Source menu.

Step 3

After you select Panopto from the Video Source menu, a pop-up window will open that automatically authenticates your UArizona Panopto account. When you see your videos appear in the Choose tab, select the checkbox next to the desired video.

Note

You can also choose to Upload or Record a video within the menu. Learn how to Record Video in the PlayPosit Designer.

Tip

By default, the videos that appear are those that reside in your My Folder. Select the dropdown menu or search field to find other videos within your Panopto account.

Step 4

Select the Select Video button. The video will process and then initialize. Sometimes this action takes a few moments to complete. If it's processing for more than a minute, refresh the browser window and try again.

Step 5

Once the video is processed and pulled into PlayPosit, the title, captions, Bulb thumbnail, and trimming/cropping of the video can be edited. When all desired edits have been made to the video, select Done. Now, the Panopto-hosted video is ready to be overlaid with interactions within the Designer. Change Panopto Share Settings

Panopto will only work properly with PlayPosit when the Panopto video’s share settings are set to Public (unlisted) or Your Organization (unlisted)

To learn how to adjust the share settings on a Panopto video, please visit Share a Panopto Video: Share Permissions.

Troubleshooting Common Errors

Video streams failed to load

If the error message below appears in a Bulb with Panopto videos, first check the video share settings (Change Panopto Share Settings).

Error message: "Video streams failed to load."

If the video share settings are correct, trim the last second of each Panopto video in the Bulb from within the PlayPosit Designer. Learn how to trim & crop a video at PlayPosit Knowledge Base: Trimming and cropping video (opens in a new tab).

Panopto authorization error

If the error message below appears in a Bulb with Panopto videos, first check the video share settings (Change Panopto Share Settings).

Authorization Error Message: “Panopto authorization needed in order to view this Bulb. Please login to your Panopto account, or make sure you have an already validated Panopto session in order to continue.”
