Accessibility Tips - Discussions

Note Taking

For many students, notes are an essential study aid. However, taking notes while listening, viewing, etc. can be difficult in many ways.

Accessible Strategy: Sharing Notes in Discussions

Create a Discussion Topic where anyone can post or read notes. Students can add their notes as a Word or PDF file to their post, or type them directly into the text field on a post.

Who this helps

  • Students who experience auditory processing problems
  • Deaf and hard-of-hearing people who need to watch captions
  • Students with physical disabilities who experience difficulties typing or writing
  • Note-takers who may benefit from better focus, comprehension, and retention
  • Everyone who uses notes as a study aid

Note

The Disability Resource Center partners with instructors to create accessible classrooms and can answer additional questions you have related to accessibility strategies in Discussions. Visit the DRC website (opens in new tab) to learn more. Select Instructor Login on the DRC homepage to view any accommodations that your students have requested.
