Connect a D2L Course to Top Hat

Top Hat can integrate with both the classlist and gradebook of a D2L course. Please note that an individual Top Hat course can only be linked to a single D2L course, and vice versa. Follow the steps below to connect your D2L course to Top Hat.

Note

You will need to create your Top Hat account and the desired Top Hat course before following the steps below. For step-by-step guides, please visit these help pages:

Step 1

Navigate to the desired D2L course site, then select UA Tools > Panopto.

If your D2L Course is not using the default navbar, the UA Tools and/or the Top Hat options may not appear. For more information on modifying your D2L navbar, please visit UCATT's Add UA Tools to NavBar help page.

Step 2

Select the Top Hat course that you would like your D2L course to connect to, then choose to continue. A pop-up will appear and Top Hat will then open in a new tab.

Step 3

If you receive the Your courses are connected! message, you can either close out of the tab, or choose to view course in Top Hat.

Top Hat automatically syncs with your D2L classlist (roster) every day, between 9pm and 11pm AZ time. If you'd like to your D2L classlist to Top Hat immediately, please follow the optional steps below.

Manual LMS Sync (optional)

To sync your D2L classlist with Top Hat immediately, follow the steps 4 and 5 below.

Navigate to the Students tab in the upper left section of your Top Hat course.

Locate the Sync Roster button in the upper right section of the page, immediately to the left of the export button. Selecting this button manually syncs the D2L classlist with Top Hat.
