Insert Stuff Functionality
Note
Insert Stuff is a Brightspace tool available in Brightspace's HTML Editor. It allows users to directly place content, embedding it within the webpage.
The instructions on this page work anywhere in Brightspace that you find the Insert Stuff button. The button has four icons representing Play, Pause, Stop and Record stacked in a 2x2 pattern. Hover your cursor over the button and Insert Stuff displays.
Insert File from Your Device via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select My Computer.
Step 3
Either drag & drop the file into the designated area or select Upload and choose your file.
Step 4 (optional)
You can change the location the file will be saved in Brightspace by selecting the Choose Destination button and then either selecting an existing location or selecting New Folder; when finished, choose Select a Path.
Step 5
Once the file has uploaded to the page, select Upload.
Insert H5P Activity via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select H5P.
Step 3
Select your desired H5P activity.
Step 4
Select Insert.
Step 5
Choose your desired grade option.
Step 6
Select Insert.
Note

Insert Panopto Video via Insert Stuff
Important
Inserting Panopto videos via Insert Stuff is the recommended workflow. For more information and detailed instructions about Panopto, please see Panopto (opens in new tab).
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select Panopto.
Step 3
Select the radio button of your desired video.
Step 4
Select Insert.
Step 5
A preview of the video opens; once satisfied, select Insert.

Insert Media from Course Offering Files via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select Course Offering Files.
Step 3A
Select the radio button of your desired file.
Step 3B (alternative)
Upload a new file by selecting Upload and then selecting Choose File and selecting the new file on your device; the file will be saved to your Course Offering Files on Brightspace and inserted into your content.
Step 4
Select Next. Step 5 below details process for images; Step 6 below details other media types.
Step 5A (for media that are images)
Insert a name for the image into Link Text; this is what image name displays in HTML source code and for screen readers.
Step 5B (for media that are images)
Insert Alternate Text, following accessibility guidelines; only select Image is Decorative if the image meets that definition and requirements.
Step 5C (for media that are images, optional)
Aspect ratio of an image is locked by default; if desired, change width and height parameters by inserting numeric values.
Note
Altering width and/or height parameters can result in images displaying in unacceptable ways once embedded. It is advised to leave Lock aspect ratio checked.
Step 5D (for media that are images)
View the image preview and, once satisfied, select Insert.
Step 6A (for media that are files)
Insert a name for the Link Text; this is what displays in your content that users will select to view the file.
Note
Leaving Link Text blank when your media is a file means Brightspace inserts the Brightspace URL into your content. Correct the name by single selecting on the link and selecting the Pencil icon to open Edit Link; change the Text field to what you want displayed in the content and selecting Apply.
Step 6B (for media that are files)
View the link preview and, once satisfied, select Insert.
Insert Video Note via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select Add Video Note; if prompted, allow system access to video & microphone.
Step 3
Record your video note; for further instructions on recording or editing a video note, see Adding Assets to Media Library (opens in new tab).

Select Insert.
Insert File from Media Library via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select Media Library.
Step 3
Select the radio button of the desired file; see Using Media Library (opens in new tab).

Select Next.
Step 5 (optional)

Insert Video from YouTube via Insert Stuff
Important
YouTube videos are not hosted on University of Arizona servers. Videos may be taken down, deleted or otherwise made unavailable solely by the YouTube account holder. The InTech Team advises checking all YouTube videos used in a course site to ensure they remain valid and functional.
At present, Brightspace has disabled the direct function of searching YouTube videos on Brightspace. To use a YouTube video on Brightspace, please see Insert Media Using Embed Code (opens in new tab).
Insert Images from Flickr via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select Flickr.
Step 3
Insert a term into the search bar and select Search.
Step 4
Peruse the available images.
Important
Verify image licensing before selecting an image to use. Flickr indicates what uses are permitted for an image. Instructors bear responsibility to make sure images are licensed for the context.
Step 5
When you locate the image you want to use, hover over it and select anywhere in the negative white space; the background turns light blue.
Step 6
Select Next.
Step 7
Insert Alternate Text, following accessibility guidelines; only select Image is Decorative if the image meets that definition and requirements.
Step 8
Select Insert.
Insert Media Using Embed Code via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Locate the desired video and copy the desired embed code. see Locate an Embed Code (opens in new tab).
Step 2
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 3
Select Enter Embed Code.
Step 4
On the Enter Embed Code interface, paste the copied embed code into the Embed Code box.
Step 5
Select Next.
Step 6
Preview the video to see how it plays.
Step 7
Select Insert.
Important
Content behind paywalls or non-WebAuth authentication can prevent users from playing embedded content in Brightspace. It is advisable to check any embedded content to ensure desired experience.
Insert Films on Demand from UA Libraries via Insert Stuff
Step 1
Select the Insert Stuff button.
Step 2
Select Films on Demand UA Libraries.
Step 3
Insert a term into the search bar and select the Magnifying Glass icon to search.
Step 4
Peruse the available options; use the filters to narrow your search.
Step 5 (optional)
Select Preview to view the video.
Step 6
Select Embed and choose the frame size of the embedded video (i.e., Small, Medium, Large); select Resource Link to place a link to the resource in your content.
Step 7
Preview the video; if peview is blocked, select Allow.
Step 8
Select Insert.
Insert PlayPosit via Insert Stuff
Note
While it is possible to use Insert Stuff to insert PlayPosit bulbs, the recommended workflow to insert PlayPosit into a Brightspace course is to use Existing Activities. For instructions and further information, please see Add a Playposit Bulb to Brightspace (opens in new tab).
