Files & Content Saved on Your Device

Note

Use this workflow to add files saved on your device into Brightspace.

Add Existing Content via Drag & Drop

Step 1

From Content, with the desired module or submodule chosen, select Add Existing.

Step 2 (optional)

Use the drag & drop field to drop existing files.

Important

The drag & drop field instantaneously uploads the content and returns you to the module or submodule where you must toggle visibility if you wish the item to be visible.

Note

To upload SCORM/xAPI objects, you must use the SCORM/xAPI icon and not drag & drop the zip package; please see Add SCORM/xAPI Object.

Step 3

Select the icon of the content type desired; see the available options below for step-by-step instructions specific to that tool.

Step 4

Completing the process for the selected content type returns you to the module or submodule in which you placed the content.

Brightspace Activities & Tools

Note

The processes detailed here place  existing Brightspace activities or tools into the selected module or submodule.

Place Existing Brightspace Assignment: 

Step 1

From Content, with the desired module or submodule chosen, select Add Existing.

Step 2

Select Assignment; Insert an Assignment opens.

Step 3

Select the name of the desired assignment or use the Search bar to browse your existing assignments by inserting a search term and selecting the Magnifying Glass icon.

Step 4

Brightspace immediately places the assignment into the selected module or submodule and takes you to that item in Content.

Note

Brightspace places the assignment with its existing visibility in Assignments; toggle visibility by selecting the Visibility toggle in the upper left; toggling visibility in Content, toggles visibility in Assignments. 

Place Existing Brightspace Discussion: 

Step 1

From Content, with the desired module or submodule chosen, select Add Existing.

Step 2

Select Discussion; Insert a Discussion opens.

Step 3

Select the name of the forum where the discussion is housed or use the Search bar to browse your existing discussions by inserting a search term and selecting the Magnifying Glass icon.

Step 4

The menu displays all discussion topics in the selected forum; select desired topic or use the + icon to place a link to the entire forum.

Step 5

Brightspace immediately places the discussion into the selected module or submodule and takes you to that item in Content.

Note

Brightspace places the discussion forum or topic with its existing visibility in Discussions; toggle visibility by selecting the Visibility toggle in the upper left; toggling visibility in Content, toggles visibility in the discussion forum or topic. 

Place Existing Brightspace Quiz: 

Step 1

From Content, with the desired module or submodule chosen, select Add Existing.

Step 2

Select Quiz; Insert a Quiz opens.

Step 3 

Select the name of the desired quiz or use the Search bar to browse your existing quizzes by inserting a search term and selecting the Magnifying Glass icon.

Step 4

Select the desired quiz. 

Step 5

Brightspace immediately places the quiz into the selected module or submodule and takes you to that item in Content.

Place Existing Brightspace Checklist: 

Step 1

From Content, with the desired module or submodule chosen, select Add Existing.

Step 2

Select Checklist; Insert a Checklist opens.

Step 3

Select the checklist or use the Search bar to browse your existing checklists by inserting a search term and selecting the Magnifying Glass icon.

Step 4

Brightspace immediately places the checklist into the selected module or submodule and takes you to that item in Content.

Place Existing Course File: 

Step 1

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 2

Select Course File.

Step 3

Choose the desired course file by selecting it. 

Step 4 (optional)

Use the search bar to enter a name and select the Magnifying Glass icon to search by file name. 

Note

Course files placed are toggled hidden when placed; to make visible, see Toggle Visibility (opens in a new tab).

Place Existing File from Media Library

Step 1

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 2

Select Media Library.

Step 3

Choose the desired course file by selecting the corresponding radio button

Step 4 (optional)

Use the search bar to enter a name and select the Magnifying Glass icon to search by file nameUse Filters to narrow the type(s) of file to display; clear filters by selecting Clear All.

Step 5

Once the radio button for the desired file is chosen, select Next

Step 6 (optional)

Update the name of the file, if desired.

Note

Updating the name of the file updates all instances of the file across all Brightspace sites where the file is shared. 

Step 7

When finished, select Insert

Note

Files placed from the Media Library are toggled hidden when placed; to make visible, see Toggle Visibility (opens in a new tab).

Place Existing Rubric

Step 1

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 2

Select Rubrics.

Step 3

Choose the desired rubric by selecting it.

Place Existing Self Assessments

Step 1

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 2

Select Self Assessment

Step 3

Choose the desired self assessment by selecting it. 

Step 4 (optional)

Use the search bar to enter a name and select the Magnifying Glass icon to search by file name. 

Note

Self assessments are toggled hidden when placed; to make visible, see Toggle Visibility (opens in a new tab).

Place Existing Surveys

Step 1

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 2

Select Surveys

Step 3

Choose the desired self assessment by selecting it. 

Step 4 (optional)

Use the search bar to enter a name and select the Magnifying Glass icon to search by file name. 

Note

Surveys are toggled hidden when placed; to make visible, see Toggle Visibility (opens in a new tab).


Existing External Learning Tools

Note

The processes detailed here place an existing activity from an external learning tool.

Add Existing Top Hat Activity via Deep Link:

Important

Your Brightspace course site must first be linked to a Top Hat course in order for deep linking to function; see Connect a Brightspace Course to Top Hat (opens in New Tab).

Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select Top Hat Deep Link.

Step 4

Select Open in a New Window

Step 5

Choose the desired activity by hovering over it and selecting the checkbox.

Step 6 (optional)

Sync Grades of Selected Content is automatically selected; deselect if grade sync is not desired. 

Step 7

With desired item(s) chosen, select Continue

Step 8

Confirm settings and, if present, address any notifications from Top Hat. 

Note

If the activity is missing settings that may impact availability or function, Top Hat alerts you in the Confirm Selection screen; make any adjustments. 

Step 8

When done, select Confirm

Place Existing Gradescope Activity

Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select Gradescope 1.3.

Step 4 (required)

Ensure your course has been linked to a Gradescope Course; see Using Gradescope (opens in a new tab). 

Step 5

Select the desired Link With option by choosing the corresponding radio button for a new or existing activity; use the dropdown menu if selecting an existing activity to choose the desired activity.

Step 6

Select Link Assignment; for further Gradescope setup instructions, see Using Gradescope (opens in a new tab).

Add Existing FeedbackFruits Activity


Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Important

Use the More button if you're placing a FeedbackFruits activity for the first time in your course site. If you're placing a second or subsequent link to the same activity (e.g., in a different module), select External Tool Activity and select FeedbackFruits from there. This avoids creating a duplicate activity.

Step 3

Select FeedbackFruits.

Step 4

Select the location of the desired activity, choose an assignment & complete the setup process.

Step 5

Select Save.

Add Existing Panopto Graded Activity

Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select Panopto Graded (Instructor Use Only).

Important

Use Panopto Graded when you want to place a Panopto video that has an associated quiz and you desire a grade item. Panopto will create a grade item in Brightspace to connect to the video. for further information, please see Use Panopto Video or Quiz as Graded Activity in Brightspace (opens in a new tab).

Step 4

Select the desired grade option.

Step 5

Locate the desired Panopto video and select the corresponding radio button.

Step 6

Select Insert.  


Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select Digication Assignment Link.

Step 4

Locate the desired activity & select the corresponding checkbox.

Choose Select.

Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select PlayPosit.

Step 4

Select Set Link.

Step 5

Locate the desired bulb & select the corresponding D2L icon (Set Bulb Link).

Step 6

Configure the bulb's settings.

Step 7

Select Link.

Add Existing H5P Activity

Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select H5P.

Step 4

Locate the desired activity.

Step 5

Select Insert.

Note

Add Existing Content via Google Drive

Step 1

From the desired module or submodule, select the Add Existing button.  

Step 2

From Add Existing interface, select the More icon.  

Step 3

Select Google Drive.

Step 4

Select Sign in to Google Workspace.

Step 5 (optional)

If this is your first time connecting to Google Workspace in Brightspace, a pop-up window with WebAuth opens; authenticate your account; select Continue to authorize the connection between your University of Arizona Google Workspace & Brightspace accounts; select Allow to set the required permissions; select Sign in to Google Workspace again.

Note

A Google Workspace account can only be linked to one Brightspace account. If you receive a message that your account is already linked, please contact intech@arizona.edu.

Step 6

Locate the desired content & select it.

Important

Maintain the checkbox for Allow anyone in your organization to view; users are required to authenticate via WebAuth to access the file.

If unchecked, users will not be able to access the content unless you enter each desired user's NetID into the share permissions on the item. Otherwise users receive the Request Access form that sends you an email to authorize their access.

Step 7

Select Add.

Note

If you no longer wish your University of Arizona Google Workspace account to be linked to your Brightspace account, please contact intech@arizona.edu with a request to have your Google Workspace account link deleted.

Add Existing Content via OneDrive

Important

The ability to connect a University of Arizona OneDrive account to Brightspace is not currently supported at the University of Arizona. It is possible to upload content via another method. If you have questions, please contact intech@arizona.edu.

SCORM/xAPI Objects

Important

The InTech Team is unable to provide any direct assistance on SCORM/xAPI objects, including building, maintaining and validating. Users are responsible for the creation, maintenance and workability of their SCORM/xAPI objects.

Add Existing SCORM/xAPI object

Step 1

Once SCORM/xAPI Object is selected; Add Course Package-SCORM/xAPI opens.

Step 2

Select the radio button of the desired object or use the Search bar to browse your existing discussions by inserting a search term and selecting the Magnifying Glass icon.

Step 3 (optional) 

Select Bulk Upload and then use the drag & drop field to upload object files.

Step 4

Select Next; Adding Course Package opens.

Step 5 

By default, a new grade item is created; if you want the object ungraded or you will connect the object to an existing grade item, select No.

Step 6

If yes to creating a grade item is selected, use the dropdown to choose the Grade Calculation Method to select which attempt counts for the grade item 

Step 7

Select the desired radio button to select Version Control between displaying the latest version or always showing the present version.

Step 8 

Use the Course Package Player Options to select whether to display the object in a new window (recommended) or embed in the module or submodule.

Step 9

Select Add.

Step 10

Brightspace adds the SCORM/xAPI object and returns to the module or submodule.

Preview SCORM/xAPI Objects

Step 1

From the Add Course Package-SCORM/xAPI interface, select the Ellipses icon on the desired object.

Step 2

Select Preview.

Step 3

The content opens in a new tab; preview it and, when finished, close the browser tab.

Edit Properties of SCORM/xAPI Object

Step 1

From the Add Course Package-SCORM/xAPI interface, select the Ellipses icon on the desired object.  

Step 2

Select Edit Properties in Place; Edit Course Package Properties opens. 

Step 3

Make desired edits:

  • Course Package Name: edit the name of the object
  • Description: edit the description of the object that displays in the module/submodule.
  • Course Package Player: use the radio buttons to select whether to Embed or Open player in new window.
  • Course Package Review/Retake Options: use the radio buttons to permit or not permit review/retake of the object. 

Step 4

When done, select Save.

Manage Versions of SCORM/xAPI Object

Step 1

From the Add Course Package-SCORM/xAPI interface, select the Ellipses icon on the desired object.  

Step 2

Select Manage Versions; Manage Versions opens.

Step 3

Use the drag & drop or select Click to import an updated version of the SCORM/xAPI object. 

Step 4

Versions of the SCORM/xAPI object appear at the bottom of the Manage Versions interface; use the Ellipses icon to Preview or Download the version.


Delete SCORM/xAPI Object

Step 1

From the Add Course Package-SCORM/xAPI interface, select the Ellipses icon on the desired object.  

Step 2

Select Delete.

Step 3

Confirm deletion of the SCORM/xAPI object by selecting Delete.
